Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan Patna is located at Bailey Road and was opened to the public from 1973. It is an important tourist destination in Patna, visited by people from all parts of India and abroad. It is also a favorite picnic spot for the tourists. It is open for the visitors from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on all days of the week except for Mondays. The entry fee is Rs.15 per person. Being a nature loving person I was eager to reach the park and take some wildlife photography. So I had my camera ready with me. We reached the place by 10.00 am and after taking the entry fee, got inside.

The park is spread over an area of 153 acres and consists of more than 800 animals of various species. Since it was a botanical garden earlier, it has as many as 300 species of trees, plants, herbs and shrubs. There is greenery all around and it was quite cool inside the park. In the middle of the park there was a large pond and we also saw a number of trails leading top different parts of the park. There were separate enclosures for keeping snakes, fish and so on. The aquarium in the park had a wide variety of fish and the snakes were also varied in number.

The toy train was another attraction here, which consisted of 5 compartments that were open on all sides, offering a clear view of the park to the customers. The train passed through tunnels and covered all the major routes in the park. It was really fun riding on the train. We also had a ride on the boat, on the pond that was located at the centre of the park. The ride refreshed us and we enjoyed the view offered to us when we rode the boat.

Battery operated cars were the perfect choice for those who find it difficult to walk around the park. The visitors are also offered elephant rides inside the zoo. The hanging bridge over the pond was another great attraction in the park. There were many small gardens and cafeterias in the park.
