Fashion enthusiasts and students interested in taking up fashion designing as their profession first think of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gandhinagar. This institute offers the best course when it comes to fashion designing. As such, on the way back from Punit Van, we decided to make a stopover at the institute.
The NIFT campus is very huge that occupies five acres of land. With special permission from the principal of the institute, we started exploring the place. We decided not to disturb the ongoing classes there. We found that there were separate buildings for theory and practical classes, namely the theory studios and workshops. The students here can make use of the library, labs and the resource centre, which gives them an insight into the latest fashions and technologies.
The personnel there told us that it was not only academics that they teach there at all times. Various cultural events and sports activities for the students also take place there at regular intervals. The Research and Development centre carries out activities with regard to the Readymade Garment Industry. This is to enable the students to conduct research, develop knowledge about the product and to upgrade their skills to the highest level. There is also a jewellery design and a production centre and the Government provides the funds for these activities.
Getting a degree from this institute gives an upper hand for the designer to highlight their wares and talents after finishing their course. Many famous fashion designers of today’s era have certificates from the NIFT situated in different location across India. NIFT has its headquarters in New Delhi and other centres at places such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai etc. to name a few.
The personnel at the campus were very friendly and co-operative and they gave us an insight about the various courses, which the institute offers. We took a walk along the campus and saw the clean canteen/mess room and the rooms with various recreational facilities for the students. If needed, the institute provided pick up and drop facilities for the students too. I learnt a lot about fashion during the two hours that I spent inside the campus.
