Maharana Pratap Memorial Udaipur took me to bygone Era of Rajputana Rule and it is one of my most memorable experiences which gave me the opportunity to gaze into the history of self-esteemed Maharana Pratap and Mewar. It is a historical site dedicated to the courageous Maharana Pratap located at the top of Pearl Hill or Moti Magri on the banks of Lake Fateh Sagar. The scenic beauty of the place with beautiful garden and slopes is breath-taking and the most striking thing is from there one could have the panoramic view of whole Udaipur City. This Memorial or Smarak was initiated by Maharana Bhagwat Singh of Mewar helped by a public trust.
The memorial includes a bronze statue of Maharana Pratap sitting on his loyal and faithful horse, Chetak. It was his favourite horse and he was extremely attached to his horse. His horse is known to stand by him till Maharana’s last breath and was killed in Haldighati battle. People pay homage to Chetak too. The statues of Maharana Pratap associates Bhamashah, Jhalaman, Bhilu Raja and Hakim Khan Sur can be seen erected at the memorial site.
Moving in the memorial I had glimpses of some extraordinary display of costumes, modern art, pictures of people of Mewar in battlefield and their weapons which were eye-catching. The palace with more than hundreds of room and with delicate interiors made of glass and mirror filled me with much enthusiasm. The memorial was saying the story of the Mewar’s hierarchical kings, their valour, hardships and their strong determination of no suppression to anybody. I felt like I could still hear the horse-trots of the Rajput soldiers and I was filled with awe and great appreciation. The fine paintings of Mewar, on the walls of the Queen’s Chamber, is well preserved. There are two peacocks made of coloured glass is an excellent presentation of glasswork. The memorial now stages evening shows made interesting with a short film and traditional shows which includes music and dance in traditional style which makes it an ideal place to visit in evening. I missed no opportunity to capture all the beauty of inside and surrounding of the memorial in my camera.
Maharana Pratap Memorial Udaipur is really a must visit place especially for photography lovers like me and the picturesque surrounding of the Pichhola Lake nearby filled me with sheer delight.
